Where are Photosensitive Plates Often Used?

If you’ve heard of the term photosensitive, chances are, you’ve also heard of photosensitive plates, photosensitive labels and other products produced with the help of photosensitivity. The term “photosensitive” actually means responsive or sensitive to light, or sensitive or reactive to electromagnetic radiation. If used in conjunction with metal plates and other materials used to produce tags and labels, you will realize that items marked with the use of this particular marking method are items that were made to be sensitive to light and were marked with a device that produced whatever can be seen on these tags, labels and plates.

Probably one of the most commonly used materials for photosensitive products is anodized aluminum. The print that you see on these anodized aluminum plates is produced via a process that is similar to black and white photography, with one method using a silver compound and another using what is called a photo resist. This second method uses either a positive or a negative resist type, with one being less expensive than the other and each one ideal for use with different materials and for different reasons.

Where You Might Find Photosensitive Plates Being Utilized

When you talk about photosensitive plates, particularly those made with anodized aluminum, you will find that these are actually used for quite a number of applications. One of the most commonly seen uses for this is for the creation of barcoded plates and labels. These aluminum tags with barcodes can be used for asset management, POS needs and even for tracking purposes. This is not the only product you will find being produced with the help of photosensitivity though. Here are a few more that you might be familiar with:

Schematics – photosensitivity can also be used to create detailed schematics on aluminum plates. These schematics can be seen attached to machinery or equipment that require such plates to be on them either for operational uses or for troubleshooting. These schematics are often very detailed and can be produced a few different ways, but photosensitivity seems to be one of the better options due to the durability and long life of such a marking method.

Model and Serial Plates – you will also find that a number of model plates as well as plates that carry company information with serial numbers, contact details and the like are sometimes produced with the use of this marking method. This is often chosen for products that are to be exposed to the elements and this is also because of the fact that the protective layer over the print on the metal helps keep it from fading or deteriorating despite harsh conditions.

Warning and Instructional Plates – also another place where photosensitive marking is used is in the creation of safety plates like these warning and instructional plates. These plates need to be durable and impervious to harsh conditions as well to be able to effectively serve their purpose, and that is to instruct people of proper machine or equipment usage, and to warn them of the dangers that come with such equipment.

know that you can actually have plaques of recognition and awards crafted using this particular marking method? You can have such plates made for your award giving events or for those times when you need to have commemorative plaques crafted for buildings and other purposes.

These are but a few of the many uses of photosensitive plates. You can also use these plates for the creation of label tags, signs and other special plates that may require very durable and long lasting markings on them.
