Inherent Qualities of Brass Plates and Its Many Uses

Brass PlatesBrass is a metal that is constantly used for numerous things. One of the things it is used for is the creation of quality instruments and commemorative plaques. It is also used to create rivets used on clothing, and nameplates and tags. The reason why brass plates are used for these things is because of its many inherent qualities. These qualities are what make this particular plate ideal for so many things.

What are these qualities, you may ask? One of the most distinct characteristics of brass is its golden color. This is what makes it stand out among the many types of metals used for the creation of nameplates. Apart from this, these metal plates are tarnish and rust proof, are very malleable, and depending on the kind of alloy you are using, comes with a few more qualities that make these ideal for a number of other applications.

For example, 230 Brass, or sometimes called red brass, is a metal that is great for use in saltwater environments. This is ideal for hot and cold working as well as for casting. With a machinability rating of 30, this particular type of brass can be used to create weather stripping, gears, conduits, fire extinguishers, hydraulic castings, and many more.

Here are a few more brass types and what these are good for:

240 Brass – this is a very ductile type of brass and can be cold or hot worked. While very malleable, it has a somewhat low corrosion resistance threshold. You can find this kind of brass plate used to create instruments, pump lines, clock dials, and battery caps, among other things.

260 Brass – this particular brass type is often used to create electronic parts, brass rivets, flashlight shells, and plumbing accessories. The reason why this metal is ideal for these applications is because of its very high ductility.

330 Brass – this is one of the yellow brass plates that are ideal for many things. Apart from its highly decorative value, this particular type of brass has high corrosion resistance, and high machinability. This is great for use in creating plumbing accessories, j bends and other similar items used in plumbing.

360 Brass – this is considered the most ductile of all brass types, and has an extremely high machinability. It can be easily soldered and is great for use in applications like couplings, fittings, valve stems, gauges, and nozzles. This is also used to create machined parts and pneumatic fittings.
