Different Materials Used For Labels, Stickers and Tags

Labels, Stickers and Tags

When you need to have labels, stickers and tags made, you will first need to decide what kind of material to use with the creation of these. Depending on what you need these tags and stickers for you will need to select the appropriate material before these can be crafted. Of course, in considering what material to use, factors like budget, exposure, what to print on these tags and other similar concerns have to be considered.

Some of the materials that you can use for the creation of labels and tags are ideal for use outdoors while others are not. Some are also durable enough to withstand extreme temperatures and there are some that will melt or burn at the slightest increase in heat. When you purchase your tags, you should know where these are to be used and you should consider ordering tags that are made in different materials so that you have stock labels for any possible usage.

Here are some of the more popular material choices you have and where these are oftentimes used:

  • Paper – this is the least durable of all the label material choices you have, and possibly the most inexpensive. Paper labels can only be used on items that are to stay indoors and are not ideal for outdoor use. You can print a huge number of things on paper tags though and these are the easiest to print on. You can even print on these using your standard office printer, since these can come to you in blank sheets.
  • Aluminum Foil – this is one of the more durable yet still relatively inexpensive materials used for the creation of labels, stickers and tags. You can use this indoors as well as outdoors, depending on the thickness of the aluminum foil used. Usually, to help make these more durable, an overlaminate is added to protect both the print on the label as well as the label material itself.
  • Lexan – this is one of the most durable materials used for the creation of tags and labels, and with good reason. Lexan is a material that is used to manufacture a number of aeronautic items, one of which is the astronaut’s helmet. The thin variant of this particular material used for creating labels can be used for labeling electronics, machinery and even products, since these are very versatile.
